BrightLocal surveys consumers every year on how they choose local businesses. Three findings from the 2026 results stuck with me.
97 percent read reviews for local businesses. Not most people. Nearly all of them.
74 percent want reviews from the last three months. A pile of great reviews from 2022 does not carry much weight. People want to know how you are doing now.
45 percent now ask an AI tool like ChatGPT for a local recommendation, up from 6 percent a year earlier.
That last one genuinely surprised me. When somebody types "where should I store my stuff in Lampasas," there is a decent chance a machine is reading our reviews and deciding whether to mention us. We do not get a vote in that. Our customers do.
We are not a national chain. No marketing department, no billboard budget. What we have is a clean facility on Avenue J, a gate that works, fair prices for this town, and a phone number that rings to an actual person. None of that shows up in a search result on its own. Reviews are the only way it does.
